Abigail Lorfing’s practice areas include the preparation, filing and prosecution of patent and trademark applications both inside and outside the U.S. She also practices in patent litigation, and client counseling, including drafting opinions regarding patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity and trade secrets.
Abigail’s practice covers a variety of high-technology areas requiring cross-disciplinary backgrounds. With an emphasis in bio-medical and bio-electrical technologies, Abigail has significant experience in a range of bio-technologies including, for example: bio/implantable-devices such as bio/physiological sensors, molecular analyzers/sequencers, and orthodontic appliances; bio-chemical structures including interactions between DNA, RNA and proteins; and nanotechnologies such as nanotube/polymer synthesis. As many of these technologies involve varying degrees of life/physical sciences at the molecular level, Abigail is well versed in related cross-disciplines including electronics, computer sciences, fluid/temperature flow technology and chemical structures such as molecular physics and molecular/chemical structures (from nanostructures to pharmaceuticals).
Abigail earned a B.S. in Molecular Biology with distinction from the University of Tampa. She earned her Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law where she graduated with honors. While at William Mitchell she served as Treasurer of the Intellectual Property Society, competed in the Giles Rich moot court competition, was a member of William Mitchell Intellectual Property Law Clinic of Law, and assisted with preparation of several Briefs of Amicus Curiae in support of Appellants or Appellees. She practiced with a Minneapolis law firm for more than three years before joining Crawford and Maunu.
Abigail is licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota and is further registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
