LeRoy Maunu has been an attorney with our firm since its inception. He has a broad background, with experience as an engineer, as an attorney in a corporate law department, and as an attorney in intellectual property firms. He has specialized in patent protection since 1991.

LeRoy has experience in a variety of areas of intellectual property (IP) law including patent portfolio development and management, patent infringement and validity analysis, and technology licensing. He has extensive practice experience in obtaining patent protection for all levels of software in a variety of computer and electronics-related technologies. Some example technologies include tools for identifying software security risks and verifying software correctness, database and transaction processing systems, simulation and emulation techniques, electronic design tools, digital signal processing, computer architectures, computer storage architectures, programmable gate arrays, image processing, and network applications.

Prior to joining the Crawford Maunu Law Firm, LeRoy was with the law firm of Merchant & Gould, where he prepared and prosecuted patent applications and advised clients concerning patent protection. Prior to working with Merchant & Gould, LeRoy was with the law firm of Carr, DeFilippo and Ferrell in Silicon Valley.

LeRoy also has experience as a patent attorney at Unisys Corporation in St. Paul, Minnesota. As in-house counsel for Unisys, LeRoy was involved in patent preparation and prosecution in diverse technologies, including computer hardware and software. He also assisted in the negotiation of software licenses and various other technology-based transactions.

Prior to the in-house patent position, LeRoy was a software engineer for Unisys. LeRoy also was a software engineer at Honeywell’s Military Avionics Division prior to joining Unisys, where he developed software for new military aircraft.

LeRoy received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Iowa State University in 1985 and his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1993. LeRoy is licensed to practice law in several states and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
